Hello my name is Rosie Santana, I am Luis Barragan's auntie. I created this GoFundMe account to assist my nephew with the unforseen costs that he will be faced with along the way. Erika and my nephew Luis were excitedly expecting their third child and gave birth last Friday, December 4, 2015 to a beautiful healthy baby boy named Gabriel Luis Barragan. Big sister Emily and big brother Matthew were over the moon looking forward to their mommy and baby brother coming home from the hospital.
But their happiness turned into an unexpected, heartwrenching tragedy. Days later after being discharged from the hospital, Erika was feeling faint, nauseous and had trouble breathing. Her husband Luis drove her to the ER. Once there, doctors started running tests and lab work when suddenly she flatlined. Doctors performed CPR for thirty minutes. They were able to resuscitate her however she couldn't breath on her own any longer so they had to intubate her and have the ventilator do the breathing for her completely. Later that night, the rest of her organs were shutting down including her heart and she was losing a lot of blood. With IV's connected and many blood transfusions, they were unable to keep her stable, doctors told my nephew they did all that they could for her but there was no hope. She was taken off life support a little after midnight on Tuesay, December 8, 2015. There will be an autopsy performed in the next several days to determine what caused her untimely death. At this moment there is no rhyme or reason as to why all of this happened but please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Erika Barragan was an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter, niece, co worker, cousin and daughter in law. She leaves behind a daughter Emily 5 years old, son Matthew 3 years old, six day old newborn son Gabriel and husband/widow Luis Barragan Jr. 27 years old.
Funeral expenses can be high, so any little bit helps. Please help us reach out and support this family in their time of profound loss. Your donations will be used to pay for funeral and medical expenses, and to create a safety net for the future welfare of the family. All donations will be transferred directly to Luis. I understand the cost of a funeral, medical expenses, etc are higher than the goal listed. The ultimate goal will be to surpass the $15,000 in order to make sure this family is taken care of at least initially and hopefully lessen the stress and worry of planning a funeral and trying to raise 3 little babies on his own.
