Donetsk July 17th Sat Imagery
Donation protected
In early June Bellingcat crowd-funded the purchase of satellite imagery from Digital Globe showing areas of Donetsk on July 17th 2014 related to the downing of Flight MH17. After the purchase of the satellite imagery it was possible to establish the time the imagery was captured, 11:08am.
The full Donetsk image from Digital Globe extends around 1/3rd of the way to the town of Zuhres where the Buk linked to the downing of Flight MH17 was recorded at 11:40am. The below image shows the most likely route and the extent of the Digital Globe image.
Based on the time of the Donetsk satellite image, and the time the Buk was sighted in Zuhres, there is a reasonable possibility that the Buk and trailer will be visible in the Donetsk satellite image from July 17th.
However, to purchase the imagery to confirm this it will cost around $600, which is the initial target of this fund-raiser. If the Buk and trailer is visible then we aim to raise the additional $1500 required to publish the image.
