My name is Ben Tichenor. In January of 2016 i will be driving from Buffalo, New York to Melbourne, Florida to participate in the internship program at a non-profit organization called To Write Love On Her Arms.
TWLOHA has been around since early 2006 and i started growing interested in what they do around the fall of 2007.
TWLOHA's mission is to provide hope and to point to help, for folks struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.
i have created this page because this program is quite expensive. i will be starting this program about 30 days after graduating college and i will be working with TWLOHA for about 4 months. i am giving up the majority of my grace period that i get for my student loans, as well as that time that i would normally spend working, earning income.
i am coming to you, asking for your help. i am investing my time and money into a cause that i truly believe in and support, and i hope you can help me.
i am asking for about $5,000 to pay for everything from transportation to and from Florida, housing in Melbourne, groceries and toiletries. i do need some funds to start the program, but this campaign will continue on through the semester, as i will continue to require funding for gas and food and things.
to be honest, this kind of thing is uncomfortable for me; asking you for your money. if i could support myself fully, i would not be turning to you, but i do need your help. i am sorry i cannot offer physical incentives or rewards to you, but i hope you see this as an investment in a dream that i have had for years: to learn how to help reduce the stigma behind mental illness, and to offer help and hope to people of all ages and backgrounds who struggle with things like depression and addiction.
