Black Brunch is a non-violent direct action in the same legacy of the lunch counter sit-in's that took place during the Civil Rights Movement. So far, our focus has been to hold space as a group of Black folk in predominantly white places; confronting people with the reality of state violence Black folks are subject to in this country. Our group is intergenerational, we prioritize the leadership of women and our queer/trans family, and we serve as an access point for many of the people new to movement work. As a group we are part of the larger Black Lives Matter coalition, and many of us have been involved with other coordinated efforts in the Bay, including the BART shutdown, the OPD shutdown, and the Castro Takeover. One of the goals of our actions has been to expand and develop the leadership skills and training of all our members; we are not leaderless, but instead, leaderfull! Not only do we aim to confront complacent white people with the realities of state sanctioned violence and anti- black racism, we also strive to empower ourselves as black organizers and activists. With this in mind, we're currently fundraising to create more opportunities to develop our skills and grow deeper in our resources to resist this War On Black People.

Our group consists of about 60 members who reside in the San Fransico and East Bay area, although we have also coordinated Black Brunches in multiple other cities across the country. Funds raised will give us a chance to meetup and build further as a national group by sending some our members to the Incite! Women of Color Against Violence conference in March,  and the Allied Media Conference in June. We will also use funds raised to further our direct action work in the Bay Area and provide educational and empowerment based trainings to our community. Your support will grant us a great opportunity to learn further, reflect, and build nationally together with other community members in this struggle against state violence; and help sustain the work we are doing. We appreciate your support!
