Hello everyone,
First, I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit this page and listen to my story. My name is Simone Essix. I am from Flint, Michigan. I was blessed to have the amazing opportunity to study at Howard University in Washington, D.C. While at Howard University I was pursuing a B.A. in Media Management.
I was able to complete my freshman year at Howard solely because of a scholarship that I received that helped greatly to cover the cost of tuition. In addition to academics, I wanted to be involved in productive extracurricular activities that would allow me make connections and change. My freshman year I was a member of the Howard University SHOWTIME Marching Band, a Junior Residential Advisor in the Quad, and a volunteer with the Jumpstart program.
Returning to Howard this past fall for the start of my sophomore year proved to be extremely difficult but I did return thanks to some helpful angels within the Administration at HU, the support of my marching band family, my hardwork, and faith. Unfortunately for 2014-2015 year I did not have a scholarship to help me pay for tuition. With very little support from my family, I was unable to pay my balance out of my pocket at the end of the semester. Ultimately this prevented me from being able to complete the remainder of my sophomore year at Howard University.
The past two years have been extremely difficult for me and I have experienced many changes and hardships. Despite all this I have not lost my drive and dedication to work tirelessly to accomplish all my goals. At Howard University, I encountered numerous experiences and have built connections with many people that have been both blessings and motivation for me. It is my dream to be able to continue my education and earn my degree from Howard University. I wholeheartedly believe that that is where I am supposed to be. As discouraging as my remaining balance is to me, I believe that with my efforts and help from you all combined I can make my dream of continuing my education at Howard University a reality.
