Blyth Heart's Marching Display Jazz Band has been established since 1981 and has seen nearly 800 members pass through the doors both adults and children. With currently over 20members as we speak. The man running the show is Mr Alan Davison, he has sacrifised everything for the band. When the band has been low on funds, its come out of his pocket. He makes sure each and every member of his band gets home safely, no exspenses spared. No matter what happens this man is there to sort the problem out, even when he was seriously ill in hospital all he worried about was the band!
He drives us up and down the country EVERY sunday to compete in various competition. We participate in over 30 competitions not to mention major ones like The Northern Championships, The Great British Championships and The World Championships. Which this year we may not be able to compete in, heres why.
We own our own Band bus, called Lady Sylvia; named after Alan Davison's late wife who originally started the band. But over the recent years shes ungone many repairs. After being on the road for over 28years, serving as our band bus since 2001 she is no longer road worthy after failing her MOT. The band currently do not have funds to purchase a new bus. This is why we are reaching out to as many people as possible for help!
We are trying to raise money to buy a second hand coach to get us around. If we can't, we will no longer be able to compete and will be forced to fold as many of our members have far to travel and dont drive.
