Brad the Dad

On Sunday, November 7th, Brad was involved in a serious motorcycle accident where a deer had ran out and struck Brad's rear wheel. First responders found Brad in a ditch north of Waverly, unconscious and in serious need of medical attention. After being transported to Waverly Hospital, it was determined that he would need to be airlifted to the University of Iowa hospital to have emergency surgery to fix a brain bleed and relieve the swelling. Brad was suffering from a serious brain injury.

 

After an MRI scan, the neuro team sat down with the McKenzie family to figure out next steps. Brad had yet to wake up from this tragic accident due to the extensive damage to both sides of his brain. The family has decided that comfortable end of life care route would be best. It is what Brad would want. Right now, Brad is spending lots of time with his family showering him with love.

 

Tragically, Brad had been making progress getting on his feet - literally - from a workplace accident five years ago. Brad was welding on a heavy piece of metal and had turned and walked a few steps to grab a tool, when the piece toppled, crushing both of his legs. Ten surgeries, rehab and a continued fight to regain his life. Brad was always impressing doctors with his positive attitude and fight to walk again without assistance.

 

With Brad's reduced income due to his workplace accident and the peculiarities of worker's comp, his financial and insurance situation is difficult. We are asking for donations for help with these unexpected costs so that we can focus on all the good memories that Brad was able to share with us throughout his short 52 years of life.
