Bristol VOID - Prison Visitors
Donation protected
We are a new prison visitors group - Bristol VOID (Visitors of International Detainees) visiting at HMP Bristol. We are aimed at what are often refered to as "Foreign National Prisoners". These can be convicted prisoners serving sentences, immigration detainees, or those being held "post-sentence" - those who have served their sentence but due to immigration controls will not be released immediately, if at all.
We see these prisoners/detainees as more likely to be isolated than British-born prisoners, who would therefore especially appreciate social contact from someone independent to the prison.
We are a 100% voluntary organisation but do have some running costs, for instance around visitor training/support, as well as costs such as a secure e-mail account - and not to forget our exciting meetings(!).
We hope to put in a funding application early next year, as a more sustainable way of financing the group, but we would appreciate some money now to cover our modest initial costs.
We are a member group of AVID (Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees).
