Bring The Carcosa Club to W'Burg!

We're opening a new game space in Williamsburg and need your help.

When news got out that Nu Brand Gaming would no longer serve as the gaming hub in Brooklyn it's been for the past four years, people assumed it was the end of an era. Having a place to set up and play games (especially miniatures games) with like-minded gamers four days a week has been a luxury for space-starved New Yorkers. The great events, the great community, it really felt like we were all going to lose something when it closed.

But good news!

The management of Nu Brand Gaming is opening a new dedicated gaming space in Williamsburg at 444 S 5th Street. Dubbed “The Carcosa Club” this new location is a storefront that offers better access to trains (JMZ, L, G) and is closer to other boroughs, making it an overall easier commute for many of our members. AND the club will be available 7 DAYS A WEEK to members, with even earlier open hours (open at 9am) to get your games in according to your schedule.

The Carcosa Club will serve all types of games, but will continue to be a place that can service the big tabletop, terrain-heavy, miniatures-laden games our members want to play and that are hard to coordinate in a city where space is a premium. These games include: Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, X-Wing, Warmachine/Hordes, Malifaux, Infinity, Warhammer Underworlds, Bolt Action, Frostgrave, Blood Bowl, Guild Ball, and many more. And this location will mean that our community can grow membership, giving you more people to play with more often.

Why we are raising funds

For the past year, Nu Brand has been member-run. Management was handled through a not-for-profit corp by volunteers, donating their time and energy to keeping the club going and providing a great place to play the games they love. The Carcosa Club is another member run institution. It’s managed by six officers and revenue generated from memberships, events, and retail sales all go back into keeping the club running and making it better.

Loans from our awesome community have made it possible for us to cover initial move-in costs like first month's rent and deposit, and our membership base will keep the club running monthly. We’re raising funds to pay back these loans and cover additional move in costs like new terrain, storage, new game mats, chairs for your butts, and other miscellaneous expenses.

We will be opening in July and working towards getting the club “fully operational” (e.g. having every table built) through at least some of that month. The faster we can raise the cash we need, the faster we can reach fully operational status!

How much should you donate

Every bit helps, and so far members have donated in increments as low as $10 and as high as thousands. To give you a sense of the costs of getting the club up and running, here are some of the items we need to purchase…

   • Chairs –$25 (x 20)
   • 6x4 gaming mats –$75 (x10)
   • 4x4 gaming mats - $60 (x14)
   • Shelves - $15 (x10)
   • Storage containers - $25 (x10)
   • Terrain pieces – varies, but a good rule of thumb is around $20 each
   • Wargaming table materials - $1250

We need multiples of everything above, so your donations will help us get these into the space for members to use fast! Anything above this goes towards paying back our gracious members who have loaned us startup money once membership reaches its goals and the club becomes solvent (projected within 6 months of opening).

The Carcosa Club Vision

The Carcosa Club will be open to members every day of the year until 11pm. Our member pricing from Nu Brand is staying the same ($30 per month), our member retail discount is staying the same (25% off your orders), and we'll have a great selection of terrain to put on our new and improved custom-built wargaming tables.

We’re also looking into creating a library of games and models our members can check out and play. Curious about how to play Blood Bowl? We’ll have two fully painted teams for you to try it out at the club. Wondering how Orks play in Warhammer 40k after their new codex drops? We’ll have an army you can check out and run at a table. All of these features are in line with creating the best space in New York City for you to play your games, and a vibrant, active community to join in the fun.

Besides being a good location for commuters, the new neighborhood has plenty of places to grab some food or get a beer after your game. We’re looking to add our community of tabletop miniatures gamers to the neighborhood to make Williamsburg a hub of gaming in New York City.
