Cartooning 4 Kids on Youtube

For the past 22 years I worked as an artist in the video game and film industry. I was a traditionally trained animator with a bachelor in Fine Arts. Art is something I love and I especially love seeing my 2 beautiful young children create pictures and wonderful stories with their wild imaginations. I often sit with my kids on weekends at our dining room table with large sheets of white paper and color markers and crayons. There is nothing more enjoyable to me than seeing their creative minds at work as they talk about what they're drawing. To this day I've kept every single piece of art they created.

My career became very demanding and had me travelling abroad for weeks at a time. I was tired and stressed out all the time. My weekend drawing sessions with my kids slowly dissolved and our crayons began to collect dust. It broke my heart. I began to question what my purpose in life was about- what family was about.

In 2014 I decided to make a change. I desperately wanted to continue building my bond with my kids and not allow my work to interfere with their love for art. So, I began sharing drawing lessons for my kids on Youtube. For the first few months I recorded myself drawing pictures from the back seat of my car during my lunch breaks and uploaded them to my Youtube channel. I did this every single day. My motivation was coming home late after work to a dining table filled with pages of drawings from my children. My plan was working.

During this time I hadn't noticed that there were other people watching my videos on my channel. One view grew to ten. Ten views grew to a hundred. A hundred view grew to a thousand and so on. I realized that my lessons were being enjoyed by complete strangers. After my first year my channel grew to over 100,000 subscribers. This milestone was a validation of my teaching methods and techniques. I began thinking that perhaps my purpose in life was to help kids learn how to draw.

I told my wife the very next day that I was thinking that being a full-time Youtuber was my goal in life. I want to teach kids everything I learned in art school and working in the art industry. She was in full support so we both discussed a timeline and plan together.

After 2 1/2 years our Youtube channel grew to over 500,000 subscribers. I haven't missed one day of uploading drawing lessons since I started back in 2014. I resigned from my full-time job and made teaching art to children everywhere my life's mission.

I believe art education is critical to the growth of our future generation. I also strongly believe that art education should be free and available to everyone. Cartooning 4 Kids is an online education resource with over a thousand step by step drawing tutorials for young aspiring artists and beginners. I create and share new lessons 7 days a week. I provide all my lessons for free and I plan on keeping it that way.

Now that we're into our third year on Youtube my goal is to expand the channel further with a wider range of free art resources including traditional illustration, animation, painting, and computer graphics. I recognize these types of programs are essential for young artists but are also very expensive for us to produce. We run a very modest studio space and our current budget only covers the cost to pay for studio rental, replenish our art supplies, web hosting, and basic utilities.

This is where your generous contribution can help our channel. Recently our single source of revenue (Adsense) was cut back by Google for no apparent reason. We're seeing 25% lower ad revenue from last year even though our subscriber rates and views have increased. These cutbacks have thrown a curveball to our plans to expand.

Your contribution will mean the world to the future of our channel and will also help keep the lights on in our studio. I will continue to provide art lessons for free on our Youtube channel every single day with hopes that we can raise enough funds to continue helping young aspiring artists develop and refine their art and creative skills. Thank you so much for your kindness.
