BEAT AIDS Project Zimbabwe, sponsored by World Health Clinicians, is a private volunteer AIDS service organization based in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. When Unicef discontinued it's BEAM funding, which paid for the school tuition of over 700,000 orphans and vulnerable children, BAPZ decided to intervene and give the children the support they need. Through your donations, we can give these children the education they deserve and provide vital nutrition for them and their families.
In Zimbabwe, 16 percent of the population is living with HIV. But in Victoria Falls, that number is quite larger. Over 26 percent of the city's 35,000 people are infected with HIV. And although HIV is considered a chronic disease, so many have died because of lack of access to care. In the wake of this epidemic, many children have been left in orphanages, in foster homes or with family members who are already suffering from poverty.
When I visited only one moth ago, I met several of these children as we worked to register participants in the Guardian Angel Program. Although their spirits were bright, hunger and defeat resonated around them. Now, thanks to support from the Guardian Angel Program, these children are back in school and they have food to eat. Not only are they smiling bigger now, but once again there is a feeling of hope that they can achieve great things. A feeling that every child deserves.
