Give the gift of Giving - Keaton
Donation protected
Giving was always a part of Keaton Newsom's life. Helping another person was in his DNA. When he took his life in 2018, we were at a loss of the "why" and the learning to live with the devastating impact of his choice.
In an interview, Keaton ended with "do what you love, and do it now". It has stuck as a slogan - life is short, let's make each day count, share love and do what you love to do.
We have honored Keaton with park benches in multiple skate parks and with the balance of the donations, we are providing a gift to change a life. Roller blades, helmets, protective gear, wheels and/or shirts are being given to kids and adults desperate to get out but unable to purchase as this time. It is a "pay it forward" gift, a "gift of giving", a "give it back" gift. We ask each recipient to also do something for someone, as simple as a compliment, to one day maybe giving another person a pair of skates.
The YMCA of Dallas has provided around 50 kids here in Dallas that will receive a gift. Friends of Keaton's in other Texas cities along with Florida, New York and California are being able to "give" a gift when they know the person they meet or are calling the skate shops for these items can't afford them.
RAZORS (@razorsskates), TRANSIT (@heytransit), Carrier Skate Shop (@carrierskateshop), Intuition Skate Shop (@intuitionskateshop), THEM (@themskates) all have participated in this wonderful gift of giving.
I can not thank these companies enough.
John Sullivan, Aarin Gates, Fritz Peitzner, Jason Reyna and all of Keaton's friends are helping with this effort. From the bottom of my heart, I know Keaton is shining down on them with "thanks" as this would be something he would truly enjoy being a part of. And, he is, in his special way.
Both Intuition Skate Shop and Transit has designed a shirt in honor of Keaton but more important, will donate a portion of the sales to the National Suicide Prevention cause as well as this "giving back" project.
Many of you donated when we lost Keaton. I thank you. I hope this will warm your heart with the opportunity you have provided us to give to so many.
We will continue giving throughout the year as the donations come in.
Do not make the same choice Keaton made. His split second decision, changed not only his world but the world around him. He had so much to live for.
TAKE ONE STEP FORWARD, BREATHE, PAUSE - LIFE CAN AND WILL BE BETTER.
