Baby Jacob

On July 28 around noon Jacob Tucker Holcomb was born weighing 9lbs 1.5oz and 21.5inches long! He was just perfect, Emily's labor and delivery were perfect, Big Sister Kensie was absolutly smitten with her new brother, and everything seemed right in the world. The day was spent melting over this newborn boy who had stole everyone's heart.

The perfect life we were all living was cut short though. After just 36 hours of life Jacob had not had a bowel movement and was refusing to eat. His amazing nurse and mom knew something was off so they ran some tests and concluded that he had a bowel obstruction. He was transported by ambulance from North Okaloosa Medical Center all the way to Sacred Heart in Pensacola. These next days were crucial to Jacob. He had surgery and the diagnosis was confirmed. He has hirschsprung's disease.

Hirschsprung (say "HERSH-sproong") disease affects the large intestine (colon) of newborns, babies, and toddlers. The condition — which prevents bowel movements (stool) to pass through the intestines due to missing nerve cells in the lower part of the colon — is caused by a birth defect.

This will require another surgery when he is 3/4 months old. While it is very much possible for this sweet boy to go home in a few weeks with a bag attached to his small intestines and lead a somewhat normal life until his next surgery, right now his life is anything but normal... Which means his entire family's life is upside down. His mommy, Emily, is staying at the Ronald McDonald house and spending every moment she can next to Jacob in the NICU. Emily is Jacob's primary care provider and will not be able to put him in daycare so she can return to work in the months leading up to his second surgery. She will need to be with him 24/7 to care for his every need.

This GoFundMe page is to raise money for Jacob and Emily. A large portion of the money raised will be given to the RMH to fund Emily's long stay with them. The rest will be used for the amenities that both baby and mommy need.

Please pray for Jacob's healing, and Emily & Kensie's strength during this trying time for their family. Also every dollar will help. Please share their story.
