Road to the 2016 US Junior Open

Hi everyone!

I'm Isaac Steincamp, a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. I've been playing chess for 12 years, and I'm finally starting to reach my life goals in the sport. This year, my goal is to win the 2016 US Junior Open in New Orleans this June. However, to do this, I need to play in more competitive events across the country and find new resources to expand my knowledge of the game – which, as a college student, is not easily affordable.

For the last few years, I've given everything I can to my surrounding chess community. At my high school back in Richmond, Virginia, I revived our team, coaching it to win the 2014 U1200 National High School Chess Championships in San Diego, as well as running free chess clinics, scholastic chess tournaments, and - perhaps my greatest achievement - raising over $20,000 for our chess team over three years by directing Dragon Chess Camp , a one-week summer chess intensive. In my senior year, I was elected to the board of the Virginia Scholastic Chess Association (vschess.org), making me the youngest ever director to advocate for scholastic chess across the state. I've served both scholastic and adult players as a volunteer.

To help document my studies, I will revive both my  blog  and Youtube Channel  with regular insights into my training in what should be a long and arduous journey to the US Junior Open. By making my journey public, I want to share my process with as many supporters as possible.
