Children's of Alabama Book Drive

Owen was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when he was 3 years old. This was a bittersweet moment in our lives. We were devastated to find out that our toddler had such a disease. However, we were also relieved that we finally had an answer to his pain. Owen's doctor referred him to the Gastrointestinal Department of Children's of Alabama in Birmingham.

Children's is amazing at every appointment we go up for. The staff are wonderful to all of the children, parents, and even the siblings that may be traveling along. They have made Owen feel special in some way every single time. When we started going, Owen had a build up of anxiety and stress. When he realized where we were headed, he would start crying in the car because he was scared. They have built such a relationship with him that now he knows that he gets to see all of his "friends" during his hospital trips. 

When we go up we see how fortunate we are, and apparently Owen does too. He asked us if we could take books up to "the kids who are sick and can not leave the hospital" like he can. We were so touched when Owen asked this request. When most kids his age are worried about what they get, he wanted to give to others. We realized that this was his mission! He understands what it means to be in pain and to have to take multiple medicines a day. He understands the fear that comes with getting an IV because he gets one every month. 

We have partnered with Usborne Books & More to do a Book Drive to be able to fulfill Owen's wish and donate books to the sick kids of Children's of Alabama. Usborne will match 50% of the donations given, which can turn a $100 donation in to a $150 donation. 

Your donations will be used to buy these amazingly illustrated books for the children who are not able to come home.
