FREE CHILDREN'S BOOKS TO PROMOTE LITERACY IN VIETNAM
My name is Curtis Norris, and I am an American children's book author currently living and writing in Vietnam. I have seven published titles, including four books that will be released in Vietnamese translation next year. I have also written over twenty commissioned books for individual children.
Vietnam has given me unforgettable experiences, and now I am attempting to give something back (with your help). I know from my own experience that a good book can make all the difference in a child's life. Books open the mind to possibilities, build confidence, and nurture hope.
My mission is to promote reading and literacy in Vietnam, so I will be providing my next twelve chapter books for free to all the children in the country. I have established the Saigon Saturday Stories Club to deliver my stories in printable eBook format.
The series is called Magipelago, and is comprised of twelve interconnected books with cliff-hanger endings to keep the children reading and wanting more week to week. The completed series will provide over 500 pages of exciting reading!
This project will benefit potentially tens of thousands of children in the country, but to have the greatest impact I need to reach those who need books most who can least afford to buy them, the children living in the poorest rural areas of the country. Therefore, I also plan to translate, print and distribute units of 1000 copies of one of my books to schools and libraries in the least advantaged areas. Translation and artwork will be a fixed costs; distribution, and overhead depend on the level of support. Volume printing will bring down the cost per book, with the printing cost being US$2000 per thousand books.
I hope you will help me bring these stories into the lives of children in Vietnam.
