Chuco's Music Production Class
F.R.E.E. L.A. High School, founded by the Youth Justice Coalition (located at Chuco’s Justice Center), believes that art & music education integrated in the curriculum has valuable benefits for a quality education and in personal growth. Research has linked active music making with an increase in language comprehension and development, math ability, improved school grades, better-adjusted social behavior, and improvements in spatial-temporal reasoning. We are an alternative high school providing an educational site for youth who have been suspended/expelled, dropped out, returned home from lock-ups/halfway homes, left traditional schools discouraged, or who are teen parents. We strive to offer these students the skills to be productive members of society.
With the generosity of two volunteers, F.R.E.E. L.A High has established Chuco's music computer lab and electronic music production class. The class is a comprehensive course that teaches musicianship, music programming and production, and recording/mixing techniques. The students learn, create and share their expressions, using the latest software and equipment, with the guidance of experienced DJs & music producers . There are many costs that come with it and sadly music classes in public schools are under-funded or not funded at all in Los Angeles county. We need your support in making it the best music program it can be, so we can continue nurturing a space for creative youth expression as part of the high school curriculum.
