HELP SAVE THE CHILDRENS HOME

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Giving honor to God, it is with great energy, joy and anticipation that we approach you as co-laborers of our sixty-eight year old Children's Home. We have been on the battlefield for a long time, and we wish to Thank All of you who have given of themselves since the inception of the Children's Home of Virginia Baptists, Inc. (CHVB) to the present time.

Each day, we honor and celebrate the genesis of our rich heritage in which European American and African American Baptists joined together to establish a ministry that provided residential care for underserved and not served African American children. Many of the children, found themselves in circumstances that rendered them homeless and or parentless.

We praise God for those founders and the tenacity of their faith to persevere in the midst of obstacles to see their vision become a reality, the tangible asset of the Children's Home of Virginia Baptists, Inc.  CHVB is  affectionately referred to as, “The Legacy of Love".

CHVB appreciates the past support of the Virginia Baptist State Association. CHVB appreciates the current support of the Virginia Baptist State Convention (VBSC) and Baptist General Convention (BGC) who are the main stakeholders of this prime piece of real estate in the Commonwealth of Virginia totaling 250 plus acres of land.

CHVB appreciates Presidents Echols (VBSC) and Blunt (BGC) for their appointments of capable, competent trustees and direct financial support from the respective convention.  We also appreciate the encouragement that they direct towards their constituent associations and churches to support CHVB's vision and mission via their time, talent and treasure. We express great appreciation to all persons, organizations and  establishments that believe in and support the work of the Children's Home of Virginia Baptist's, Inc.

The support we receive makes it possible for CHVB to provide the Before/After School Tutorial Program, The summer Enrichment Program, and the Child Development Center, that successfully opened in September 2014.

Last but not least,  your contributions make it possible for CHVB to sustain the daily operations (i.e. maintain the grounds, buildings and equipment; as well as make the facilities and services available to constituent churches, associations, convention stakeholders, individuals and community groups who hold meetings, banquets, weddings and other events on the campus.)

THE ASK

There is much need in the local and surrounding communities for the services we provide. Statistical data from the US Census Bureau, law enforcement, social services and a Needs Assessment conducted by the Petersburg Office on Youth and the United Way  have all revealed the need for excellent and affordable family and youth services.

The Census Bureau reported that more than 40 million Americans live in poverty (about one in ten people). In areas like Petersburg 19.6 percent of the population lives in poverty, compared to 13 percent for the State of Virginia. It has been further reported that 17 percent of all children under the age of 18 in Virginia live in poverty.

High rates of high school dropout, teenage pregnancy, juvenile delinquency and unemployment are among the major social problems in our geographic area. Although sad inferences may be made from the statistics, the statistics alone tell us little about the crippling effects of long term poverty, neglect and dependency. Nor, do the statistics reveal the trauma experienced when unwholesome living conditions place the most vulnerable children and their families at risk by imposing upon their already shallow quality of life. Shallow living conditions are associated with the most devastating social ills of our times.

Historically CHVB has provided a safe, stable home environment to those in need. The Children's Home of Virginia Baptists desires to continue to be a viable part of the child and family service delivery network. CHVB is interested in keeping this ministry alive to provide a haven of hope for those in need.

OUR GOAL

There is a $2,000,000 mortgage on the Ritchie Multipurpose Building.  The monthly payment is $12,000. This payment, along with escalating utility costs, makes it a challenge for CHVB to engage in program development and expand service delivery.

We realize that the time has come for us to reach out to people of goodwill in the general public for assistance.  We want to assure that this long established "Legacy of Love" is maintained.

Our goal is to raise $2,000,000 by September 30, 2016.  For example - If 2000 individuals, organizations or churches give a onetime gift of $1,000 or more, we would reach our goal. Donations in any and all amounts are greatly appreciated.

The CHVB Needs Assessment revealed that CHVB "cannot do this alone". The Study revealed that CHVB will need public support in order to grow and provide the excellent services that the community needs and deserves. The retirement of the mortgage will assure that CHVB  will be able to engage in needed program development, service delivery and community enhancement activities.

Please provide your tax deductible donation at your earliest convenience. Using "Go Fund Me".  Each donation will be deposited in a special bank account that has been established for this project only. Each contributor's name will be posted on the CHVB website as donations are received. The corresponding total amount raised will be posted weekly.

PLEASE "Do not grow weary in well doing... " your support is needed, necessary, and vital to the success of this Campaign and to the future of CHVB. Please, Help Us To Keep This Vision Alive! Thank you, for Your Support.
