Civil War Monument Restoration
Donation protected
Last year, the Civil War Monument located on the Robinson Ave. side of Downing Park was hit by a car and severely damaged. The driver's liability insurance was not enough to restore the structure. We are hoping to raise enough money to bridge the shorfall and restore the monument before the Fall. This monument, erected by the Daughters of the Union in memory of their fathers who had served in the Civil War. The monument has stood in the Park since its dedication on May 30, 1934. Once having an operational fountain, it provided a passive resting place for people walking through the Park. It is now our obligation as a community to restore this memorial to our ancestors. Please help us make this possible.
