Claire's year as a 'part-time nun'

You’re right – that’s the not the technical definition. It’s shorthand for saying that from September, I’m joining the newly-created Community of St Anselm, based at Lambeth Palace for 10 months.

It’s a monastic community, meaning we’ll be following a pattern of life together that would be recognisable to religious communities of monks and nuns through Christian history. It’s based around prayer, community life, theological study, and service to local communities.

It'll be an intense program of spiritual formation, character growing and preparation for future life and ministry, aiming to release a group of young Christians in to the worlds of politics, media, banking, law and anywhere else we're called, ready to serve our communities with integrity and humility.

...That's the plan, anyway!

You can read plenty more about why I'm joining the community on my blog here , or the Community of St Anselm website  here – and I'd love to talk to you more about it personally if you've got any questions!

Each non-resident member (that's me) costs the Community £4,500 for the year, and each of the 16 resident members costs £12,000. (While I'll still be working, the resident members commit to a life of serving local communities, prayer and study, full time and so are not earning money as they do it.)

I'll be contributing a significant amount of money to the Community myself, but I'd really value your support if you feel able to contribute and help cover the costs.

And I'll be blogging about the experience as I go – so do keep an eye on theartofuncertainty.com  over the year.

Thank you SO much for all your support,

Claire x
