My dad, Paul Frantz, Sr. died yesterday night. He had no life insurance despite his insistence on getting it eventually. So, I'm asking you: his friends and family to chip in what you can. Any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated.

Originally my dad thought he had had sciatica troubles. His back was killing him and on a scale from 1-10 he said his was about an 11. I told him go get checked by an orthopedic doctor. He got an MRI and the doctor thought he had spinal cancer. She told him to get all of these tests: a CT scan, a radiation bone study, blood tests. They said the cancer didn't look as bad as originally suspected and thought he was non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Then the night before his first oncology appointment (mother's day) he said, "My eye hurts like a sinus headache." The next day we saw the oncologist, the oncologist said his cancer was average speed moving and all seemed okay. We got his eyes checked the next day and they seemed fine except he still had blurry vision.

That Thursday, the day after his bone marrow biopsy he had chills and was running a fever. He was on a lot of oxycodone and we thought he was dopey from that. So he was taken to the ER and given antibiotics for his infection. They gave him cefepime and gradually his mental status got worse. The next Monday they did an MRI and found that he had had a small stroke in his occipital lobe. And his mental status continued to deterioriate so much so that by the end of the week he was in a stupor. The following week they decided to put him on a vent in the ICU. After the vent was in he woke up, unhappy. He continued to improve and seemed to be getting better. That friday, though, he pulled out his ng tube and aspirated. He coded and almost died then if it weren't for me being there to get his nurse. So he was back in the ICU and continued to get better and better, then they moved him to the med surg floor last night and he died.

The final kick to the nuts was that he was DNR after the first code, but once he regained his faculities he told the doctor to take him off of DNR. However, for whatever reason, that did not happen. So he crashed last night and they did nothing because he was technically still a DNR.

I love my dad. I will always love my dad. He was my hero and gave me strength on the days and times I severely lacked it. He was a fighter and he wanted to live. He held on for so long that maybe he just got too weak to continue. He is a great man and I will forever miss him. So please, help him in any way that you can. He was the guy who'd give you the shirt off of his back to help anyone out. Please do the same for him. Thank you.
