Shaffer Family Fund

Robert Shaffer, known to most as Bob, Coach or Coach Shaffer, was the heart of Truckee football. He positively inspired many students and their families in his role as head coach for the Truckee High School varsity football team, a position he held for 18 years. Under his leadership, Truckee High won numerous state championships. Bob was inducted into the NIAA Hall of Fame in 2014. He also was a PE and weight lifting teacher at the high school.  Additionally he served as Truckee High School athletic director for a number of years.  In this role, he was an ardent proponent of all student athletes.  And beyond football, he gave of his time and expertise encouraging students in his work as a THS track and field coach.

Bob grew up on a farm in northeast Ohio.  He was the eldest son and fourth born child to Robert and Esther Belle Shaffer. He leaves behind his wife Lisa Shaffer and sons Bobby, Vincent and Patrick and daughter Jessica as well as five grandchildren who he loved dearly, 14 brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

He died tragically in a head-on car accident on Highway 89 just south of Sierraville while driving home from a family gathering where they had just celebrated his son's birthday on April 1st.

This fund will help the family pay for funeral costs, medical costs and hopefully to provide some kind of commemorative tribute such as a scholarship (yet to be determined...) in the future.

If you are located in Truckee and prefer to not donate online, there is a Bob Shaffer Memorial Fund set up at Bank of the West and checks are being accepted there.
