ColemanCollective is a multidisciplinary performing arts company, founded by Cain A. Coleman and Matthew Perez, which aims to bring together artists as equal collaborators to produce art in various forms. This group features choreographers, dancers, actors, writers, visual artists, directors, musicians, and other performers who seek to share and create with like-minded artists. The artistic direction is suggested by Cain A. Coleman and Matthew Perez, and the collaborators who they bring on tend to somehow bend that vision to create something completely original and unexpected. The effort to come towards a mutual understanding and create in full collaboration is what fuels the collective.
The collective is gladly growing at a rapid pace and we are all hard at work to make the vision a reality. Here are a few things we've been working towards:
Continuing to develop or latest staged production, "Retrograde". This piece reveals several perspectives on cultural appropriation, and is filled with emotionally opaque images and ironic commentary on the effect that slavery, segregation, and racism have had on the African American narrative. This project hopes to inspire audiences to expand on the conversation and research of culture and ancestry. Learning from the history within our surroundings and in our lives and making it relevant for personal and social change.
Organizing impromptu shows to take place all over NYC. These are public showings (some free) of our current works in progress, to bring awareness of the collective to the city. Please assist us in continuing to spread the word to create a stronger network of supporters. Locations and times will be announced 24hrs before these "Pop Up" sight specific performances happen.
We are in the process of creating a short film series, which is to be released Fall 2016. This project will be produced and co-directed by Tommy McCall.
We are reaching out for your support and blessings with hopes that you will donate to the collective and/or share our campaign link with your friends, family and extended network. Thank you all for your consistent encouragement and support. While our minds, bodies and hearts are fully committed to the collective, we are not financially capable of securing all funding to keep the collective available to its artists.
This is an opportunity for professional and like minded artists to create. Being able to express yourself through art is an option everyone should have and we are serving as that outlet. Helping us with funding means one more positive space, for artists of all disciplines that did not exists before.
