Educating 7 Girls in Nigeria
Donation protected
With $4,000 total we can keep seven BRILLIANT Nigerian girls in school!
The recent kidnapping of over two hundred school girls has brought the plight of girl’s education in Nigeria to the world’s attention.
I personally know seven remarkable girls from Northern Nigeria who are as vulnerable as their infamous peers.
One of them dreams of being a surgeon and making a difference in her own community where healthcare access is limited. Another dreams of being an architect. They all love school and excel at it.
They are without a doubt some of the most inspiring young women I have ever come across. Just listen to two of the girls talk about their lives in this video!
Sadly, violence, poverty and other dire barriers threaten their success.
I met the girls in the spring of 2013 when I facilitated a camp for “Naija Girls Unite!: Promoting Girls as Peacebuilders and Future Leaders” for 22 girls (pictured with me below).
My former employer, Search for Common Ground, invested $60,000 in leadership training for these young women through Naija Girls Unite, but that project has ended.
Now, my goal is simple. I want to keep them in school, because school is still the safest place to protect them from child marriage and to allow them their build skills.
But I need your help.
Education in Nigeria is not free. Books, uniforms and other costs can make it impossible for the desperately poor families of these girls to pay.
Even $1 will go a long way in making their dreams possible. $1 is equal to approximately 161 Nigerian Naira!
All funds donated will cover school fees, uniforms, books and other essential supplies they need to attend school, as well as the cost to wire the money to trusted colleagues who will pay the schools directly.
Nothing given will be wasted.
The financial needs vary according to the family’s situation. One girl only needs $133.00 to stay in school for the term, but another girl needs $1,418.00 for the full year.
All of them need your support before the end of August 2014.
Don't miss this chance to support our girls -- even if you cannot bring them back.
