Containers of Hope - Phase 1

Donation protected
Everyone from every walk of life has a story about hardship. Unfortunately, in some cases those hardships become a daily reality where there is no escape. Our goal is to establish a non-profit to help homeless families with children change their stars and change that reality.

My wife and I are fortunate enough to have extra land so we want to put it to use helping this specific segment of our population. We are proposing to use donated shipping containers in conjunction with pre-manufactured facilities and traditional construction methods to create an off-grid community to house these families until they are able to find jobs or continue working if employed already and build up enough savings to leave and start living their lives.

Our mission is to provide housing and basic amenities to these families and get them off the street, not make them comfortable to the point where there is not an incentive to leave and start their lives. Each container will have a basic bathroom and shower, heating and air conditioning, a place to sleep and change, a small refrigerator, microwave or toaster, and a small space for the family to congregate and eat. The units will not have television, Internet, washer and dryer, or meal preparation capabilities. All of these amenities will be provided in communal spaces to maximize space and encourage the residents to intermingle and promote a support system.

Your donations will help us get started to lay the initial groundwork to make this dream a reality. The funds will be used to rezone our property to create a space for the community as well as pay for all of the associated filing feels and legal representation needed. If there are any donations left over they will be transferred directly to the non-profit to help with the construction of the community.

This is a lofty endeavor to say the least and while we are in a position to donate our land and our time we are not millionaires. It is our goal to fund this project 100% though donations. The University of Georgia Engineering Department has agreed to assign the final design of the facility, which will be capable of 100% sustainment off grid as a Senior Capstone project. Our challenge to them is to design a container to house 2 adults and up to 4 children to live, our challenge to you is to make it a reality.
