Meet George! He's a 21-year-old student in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
George is your average desert-dwelling Emergency Medical Technician with an eye toward career advancement, except that school and circumstance has turned things awfully pear-shaped for him.
Although he's been accepted to Paramedic school at the University of New Mexico, if he doesn't come up with $1014 in tuition by August 29th, he won't be permitted to attend.
That'd be a righteous shame because George is an enthusiastic, compassionate, smart, and utterly determined guy, and you can never have too many compassionate, competent paramedics in this world.
So: What's a paramedic? When you call your local emergency number, paramedics and EMTs are the folks staffing the ambulance or other rescue vehicle. They set bones, start IVs, bandage wounds, manage incident scenes and keep cool as a cucumber in a major crisis. It's a major commitment of time and energy for study and practice. They're great people, and it's been George's long-time goal to become one. While in school, George will have the opportunity to work directly with a local ambulance service and hospital for hands-on clinical practice.
George is also an accomplished artist and is offering commisions based on donation levels. See details and examples here.
All money raised will go directly to George's tuition. Anything raised above and beyond will be donated to relief funds for injured fire and rescue workers.
