Cycling for Recovery Mission

I am Dave Cooke. I am an executive coach, international speaker, author and passionate cyclist.
I am also the father of a young man who has been battling his heroin addiction for several years. I know all too well the impact that the drug addiction of a loved one can have on the family.
I am riding my bicycle across the country, three thousand six hundred miles (3,600), from Santa Monica, CA to New York City. The mission behind this ride, Cycling for Recovery, is to support those families who are dealing with the addiction of a loved one, while providing education and awareness to others regarding the issue of addiction in our communities. This trip begins on Saturday, July 30, 2016
This issue is personal to me. It is also personal to the 23 million other families that are dealing with the painful struggle of a loved one's addiction. Over 129 people die every single day as a result of an overdose. Drug addiction is killing our children and destroying lives and we need to do something about it. This mission is about raising awareness and calling attention to the issue.
I cannot do this alone. I need your help.
The money raised through this campaign will go directly to the expenses for this trip. Expenses include gas for the support vehicle, lodging and food for me and the support van volunteer, and bicycle maintenance.
The Cycling for Recovery Mission begins Saturday, July 30 in Santa Monica, CA. The route follows Route 66 to Chicago, then up through Michigan to Detroit, down to Pittsburgh, and east to New York City where the ride concludes on Sunday, October 2.
Throughout the sixty-four day journey, I will be making presentations at local churches, community organizations, and treatment facilities. I have confirmed eighteen events so far, am in the process of final plans for six others, and continue to receive inquiries daily. On top of my speaking commitments, I will also be cycling six days a week at an average of 70 miles per day.
Your support means everything to this mission. I have been working diligently to find corporate sponsors willing to support my ride through the non-profit 100Pedals . Few companies have been interested in committing to engaging this cause. It has been a frustrating process. Even though I am woefully short in the funding effort, to date, I am undaunted as I know this mission has power, purpose, and value.
Please find a way to support me. Every contribution sends of message of hope, love, and understanding to those who are struggling. Thank you!
P.S. All contributions are tax deductible as this event is an active component of the IRS registered non-profit, 100Pedals.
