CS Gas Treatment for Ferguson
Donation protected
UPDATE: GoFundMe is presently, in violation of their own terms of service, providing a platform for raising funds as a reward for Michael Brown's despicable killer. In spite of outreach and outrage from the community, GoFundMe and WePay have refused to take down the campaign, preferring instead to profit from blood money given by and to reactionary racists.
In solidarity with the people of Ferguson, and at the behest of Operation Help or Hush organizers, we are suspending this campaign. We would highly encourage anyone to donate directly through http://operationhelporhush.org/ rather than support GFM's vile profiteering.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
The people of Ferguson, MO are presently under siege by an unaccountable, highly-militarized police force. One of the primary weapons being used against the populace is CS gas, also commonly known as tear gas. Like most chemical weapons, CS gas is banned by international law from use in war zones, but a specific exemption is carved out for use by domestic police. Standard treatments for tear gas exposure, particularly L.A.W., are largely ineffective, and the long-term health impact of CS gas exposure is largely unknown (Vox, August 14th, 2014).
An effective treatment exists called Sudecon. Sudecon comes on wipes in single-treatment packets; to fully decontaminate one person's face and hands requires two wipes; the first is wrung into the eyes and placed over them, the second is used to wipe down exposed skin on the face and hands. The chemical completely neutralizes pepper spray and CS gas in between five and fifteen minutes. Sudecon has been used successfully to treat police-grade pepper spray and tear gas by street medics and other groups in Seattle since 2013.
We are raising money to order a shipment of Sudecon wipes for the protesters in Ferguson, MO. The cost is $1.50 per packet, and we are aiming to raise the funds to order and ship 1,000 packets (500 treatments). We have already reached out to a contact who is handling donations in Ferguson who will be taking the donations and supplying receipts as confirmation. Any extra will be donated for use getting more treatment packets or other needed medical and safety supplies.
