Collinsville Trail Initiative

About a year ago, I stubled upon a beautiful lake in Collinsville, Oklahoma. I had once heard that Collinsville had a lake, but I had never been there. I took my mountain bike with me to explore the terrain, and what I discovered was a place surrounded by natural beauty and a refreshing sense of nature. Unfortunately it was riddled with trash and was in desperate need of a face lift. 

I spent most of the afternoon riding through pasture and a gravel road that surrounded the scenic lake. However, there was no trailhead, no trail markers, in fact, aside from the gravel road, there was no trail. That's when I decided to approach the Collinsville city government about implementing a plan that would captialize on this unique and underutilized piece of property. This is when I became a trail advocate. 

I presented my dream of building a network of family friendly trails to the Collinsville Park Board. This plan included a promotion of local tourism, an augmentation of public health and wellness, and a preservation and re-branding of our beloved lake. 

It did not take long for this idea to gain momentum. Several members of the community of Collinsville have endorsed the plan including all Park Board members, City Commission members, our Public Works Director and our the Collinsville City Manager. 

Now, I extend this good news to you: the heart and soul of our great community--the people. 

Now is an opportune time to invest in making our community greater, healthier, safer and more attractive to others. Now is a time to showcase our community's natural features. Now is a time to be a beacon to surrounding communities similar in size and stature.
