Fighting School Gun Violence

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Mike Sale, I am 20 years old, and I am a student at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

This past May, there was a mass shooting at UC Santa Barbara. A student went on a rampage and stole the lives of six of our fellow classmates in Isla Vista, CA.

It was a shock to myself, and the entire community. The following weeks were some of the hardest of my entire life; the event had taken a toll on each and every one of us. Everywhere we went, we were reminded of the terrible events that had recently occurred. A feeling of lingering despair had washed over the entire student body, and it also created an overwhelming amount of fear. We were all constantly looking over our shoulders; the environment that we had become so comfortable with and felt so safe in was not the place that it used to be. It was something that I hope no one has to ever experience. So, this summer I have decided to do exactly that; prevent this problem from ever occurring the only way I know how.

On September 12th in Spotsylvania, VA, I will be playing Disc Golf for 24 hours straight in an attempt to reclaim the world record for the most disc golf holes played in a 24 hour period. The attempt will take place at the Blockhouse Disc Golf Country Club (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2763)

In this attempt, in conjunction with the Santa Barbara Foundation, I will be raising money for the victims of the Isla Vista Massacre, and hope to spread awareness for the issue of Gun Violence on School Campuses in America.

At the end of my attempt, I will be consoldiating all of the funds, and sending them to the Santa Barbara Foundation, in a contribution to the Isla Vista Massacre Fund that they have set up.

IF YOU WISH TO MAKE A TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION, DO NOT DONATE TO THIS PAGE, ALTERNATIVELY, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
The Santa Barbara Foundation is under the tax code 501(c)3, so if you wish to make a tax deductible donation, then you will have to send me a check, made out to the Santa Barbara Foundation with the Memo filled out as "Isla Vista Victims Tribute Fund or IVVTF." At the end of the fundraiser, I will send all of these checks in, and you will receive acknoweldgement within 10 days of processing.

To take this route, please feel free to send me an email at [email redacted], and I will be able to provide you a location to send me your donation!

Lastly, although flat donations are a fantastic way to raise money, I want to encourage everyone reading this to be creative in their donations! I want people to pledge me a donation based on my performance the day of the event. For example - x dollars/cents per hole I play, per birdie on the hole, per hole in one, per mile I travel, per step I take, and even include a subtraction from the pledge - per bogey (or even par) I take in the attempt. This will be based on the honor system, but it will give me the necessary incentives to continue on and push myself to the absolute limit!

Thank you everyone for reading, hopefully together we can make a difference and stop these horrible occurrences from happening in America.

If you have any questions or simply wish to contact me, please do not hesitate to send me an email - [email redacted]
