Dairy Farm in need of Feed

Donation protected
Hi, I’m #582. I’m the spokes cow for the herd and one of the oldest family members here at the Guillemette Farm, I was born and raised here just like my owners Bernie and Kyle. We absolutely love it here where Bernie, Kyle and their family take such good care of us. We are moved, handled, milked and fed with the upmost respect.

I know you think we are just cows, but we can see in Bernie and Kyle’s eyes and faces that they are hurting over the issue with dairy farming. There was a stranger in our barn the other day talking with Bernie and Kyle, we could over hear them talking about our value, with the milk prices as poor as they are, it is like be looking for a job when no one is hiring. They also were talking about BEEF…yeah BEEF. That would mean myself and my friends would be faced with a career change from happy cows to Happy Meals. That idea deeply saddens us and our owners as we are all family. They would do anything for us and that’s why we have started this go fund me.

So, on a more serious note, in the 71 years we have farmed here on the corner of Shelburne Pond Rd and Route 116 we have never ever been this short on feed. Due to the lack of rain this year the crop production was not enough to get us through the whole winter. Finding the feed to purchase is much easier than the money to pay for it.  We need enough feed to get us through till 5/31/2019 with a menu price of $200.00 per day. We have the wheels to get the meals we just need help raising money to purchase it. I am swallowing my pride to do this, but we really need the feed to keep our cows happy. If you can find it in your hearts to assist it would be greatly appreciated.

Dairy farms are large part of Vermont’s past time. We all know someone who either their family owned one or may worked on one. Even better maybe you have worked on one yourself and understand how hard and how much work it is to operate a farm.  As we indicated above, we have farmed for 71 years thus far and want to continue the Vermont past time, even more our family heritage for many years to come.

I’m sad to sad to say that in 2018, 66 dairy farms have gone out of business.  Many of them my very close friends.  In just 2 months of 2019, 2 more have gone out. This truly saddens our family to see so many go. We are a third-generation farms and hope to continue for many more generations.

I not all can donate or feel comfortable donating, if so, we will also be hosting a Calcutta if you are able to donate a prize or would like to purchase a ticket please contact Jessica Guillemette at [email redacted]
