At the age of 13 I had to read the Wealth of the Nations, and boy was it hard! There was no way I could understand this book by myself. Then, someone gave me a small piece of advice I will never forget. It was so simple, yet so powerful. This small piece of advice was to tackle the book one sentence at a time without giving up.
Challenges like these made me realize how important it is to learn from and be encouraged by someone. I am so excited to have the opportunity to go to a remote part of South Africa where I can learn from the community, share all these things I have learned from high school, college, and coaching, and build bridges across nations.
This summer, my brother and I were asked to serve as volunteer staff on a high school summer camp called Camp10 , a branch of Bruce Wilkinson's Teach Every Nation organization. On this high school camp, students come to experience South Africa, take college credit courses that provide them with a Biblical foundation for college life, and serve the Kingdom on mission in nearby communities.
My role on this trip:
1. Mentoring the students on college life and physical education.
2. Helping with the manual labor that has to be done on the camp.
3. Coaching a daily exercise class.
4. Giving a speech to the students attending the camp on how to stay healthy and fit in college.
5. Serving the community in the Limpopo area.
After the camp, I will continue to pursue my engineering degree at Georgia Tech while working part time as a swim coach for SwimAtlanta.
Estimated Costs:
-Round Trip ticket from Atlanta to Johannesburg: $2000
-Ticket from Johannesburg to George: $250 (To visit my grandparents).
Total: $2,250
Any additional donations will be given to my brother's gofundme. If we both reach our goal, we will donate any additional money to the Teach Every Nation organization.
Thank you for your support. No amount is too small! If we are able to, we will fly to George (price already included) to visit our grandparents.
