DID YOU EAT TODAY? AGRICULTURAL WORKERS IN YAKIMA, WA STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT. DONATE HERE.
Please continue to donate, share, and advocate for these funds.
CONTEXT
Over 300 agricultural workers in Yakima are in their second week of striking and calling for hazard pay and guarantees of safe working conditions. Produce packing workers and other agricultural workers are Essential; food production does not stop for a global pandemic. These workers often toil in shoulder-to-shoulder working conditions to provide Washington State, and the world, with apples, cherries, pears and other fresh produce. Without hazard pay and safe working conditions, they are unfairly risking their lives, the lives of their families, and the lives of their communities to provide us with sustenance.
Workers are demanding respect and recognition of the risks they are taking to ensure that an essential component of our food-supply-chain does not disintegrate. Striking workers are foregoing payment as they bravely call on their employers to treat them with such respect and recognition.
WHY ARE WE REOPENING THIS FUND?
We are committed to following the leadership and requests of workers. While we recently paused donations here to direct people to individual fundraisers for each group on strike, workers are now asking for this fundraiser to be reopened to collect donations that will be distributed between the groups of workers. Their individual pages will stay live to capture any donations that have been directed to their pages.
This has been a learning process for all of us and we want to thank you for your flexibility and grace. The individual pages weren’t gaining the momentum and support that was initially captured through this page and so we’re hoping to tap back into the energy that was demonstrated here. Please share this fund with anyone and everyone. Workers are leading courageously and they need our support.
***TRANSPARENCY STATEMENT***
This GoFundMe fundraiser was created at the direction of the committees of the striking sites by the Yakima Strike Support Collective. This Collective is local to Yakima, Washington, USA. This Collective is a group of volunteers assisting with the everyday needs of each striking site; we are supporters of the labor movement in Yakima. While we created this fund, the donations will go directly to the bank account of the assigned beneficiary. The beneficiary, Agustin Lopez, is one of the leaders of the striking group at Allan Brother's Fruit- the first site to go on strike in Yakima, WA. The beneficiary is local to Yakima, WA. The beneficiary has been entrusted by all of the striking workers with administering the funds from this fundraiser to each of the striking workers based on number of days of strike and the amount of the funds raised. Because strikes are not PAID, these funds will serve as economic relief for the striking workers. Funds will be divided equally and according to the stated system.

CONTEXTO
