Building Digital Action Network

Donation protected
The quick nutshell:
With the help of Digital Action Committee, I'm building a new digital tool. This platform will answer the question, “If I care about a certain cause, want to learn more about it, meet more people like me and find ways to activate immediately, where is the first place I will go?”. The days of organizing on mainstream social networks are outliving their usefulness for many reasons, and dulling our creativity. The first step is to get this presentable for bigger funding.

The longer version:
The Digital Action Network started as an idea by the "Digital Action Committee", a loose network of creative minds I rallied to figure out how we could effectively beat police brutality and other societal ills.

Over the past year, that idea has evolved into a new concept. This concept takes ideas started by traditional platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Reddit, and gives them a deeper purpose. That purpose is to (1) create the ultimate online hub for activism and organizing around causes, and (2) create a community so powerful that it can leverage it's own weight to protest.  No more posting to Facebook or Twitter frustrated, "What can I do to help?". There can now be a TOOL where you are connected not only to your friends, but also to new people doing things you care about, where you can start movements of your own, and where the platform itself advocates for the people, instead of just using them to create revenue. The time for that model of exploitation is over. Platforms need to be our partners now, not intentionally addictive hamsterwheels that offer little real value.

With the support of the very smart and talented people of the Digital Action Committee, I have a clear(er) vision of how this will work. I also have support from people who can help me take this to the next level and get proper seed capital; but I have to show and prove to them that I have a firm grasp of the vision, I can get some support on my own and that I have what it takes to see this through. So now it's time to go about the hardwork of building this behemoth, and launching my first official startup. Truly exciting....

The first step will be putting together an attractive mockup of the interface, to get this ready for bigger conversations. So I will need to work with a small team of designers. While I could find people to donate time, that is asking for trouble. And while I could wait until I save up enough money, time is of the essence. So I want to hire these folks, and do it quickly so that I can take the next steps.

Funds raised would be used to hire this small team, and create bandwidth so that I have time to work on this. The support would be invaluable to me as an individual, but this is really not about me. It's about my responsibility to contribute something useful and thoughtful in today's turbelent times. My vision is to build the perfect outlet for anyone who wants to "get involved", whatever that means to you. And it should be a fun, engaging, empowering  experience.

I do not feel the concept is ready to go "wide" and "public" yet, so that's why I'm starting with a smaller campaign to reach my innermost circle and their connections. When things are more fleshed out and this thing gets more legs, then I think it will be ready for more widespread support.

This is a huge step in that direction.
