Dixmoor Vikings Van Needs Fixing

The Military Dixmoor Vikings (MDV) is a youth football and cheer organization catering to one of the most underprivileged suburbs south of Chicago. Also being the smallest village among several within a 30+ mile radius, funding for youth programs are extremely limited. The Village of Dixmoor does not have a park district; which forces the children to other communities for extracurricular activities. It also forces the organization to commence practice and games at locations outside a walking distance for the children. Nevertheless, MDV strives to keep our children involved by offering progressive opportunities through sports, community involvement, and fun-filled outings throughout the year. While financial resources are limited for most of the MDV families, transportation is an even greater problem.

Dwayne Tyson, the president and founder of the Military Dixmoor Vikings, brought me on as administrative and accounting support. In working with him, I discovered his passion for ALL CHILDREN and people in general. He demonstrates daily his appetite for giving back to his community. He recognized the transportation need and purchased (from his own pocket) a 20-year old, used, 16 passenger van to transport children to/from practice, games, and events. He is constantly facing an uphill battle of van issue after van issue, and has spent well over $2,500 in repairs. I’d like to say that “Big Trusty” is on its last leg, as the van is back in the repair shop with estimated repairs and refurbishments totaling just under $2,000... a huge unexpected expense.

While a new van would be ideal and a TREMENDOUS blessing, “Big Trusty” is greatly needed as the 2015 season is underway and the children are yet again struggling to make it to practice. Tyson is a humble man and would rather stretch himself thin to make it work... he deserves more than that... the kids deserve more than that. Please help me to help my friend repair "Big Trusty", the children are counting on it.
