Don McGregor's Cancer Fund

Donation protected
This past January my dad, Don McGregor, went in for a routine colonoscopy, but the results from the procedure were anything but routine. Doctors found a mass in his lower, Sygmoid colon that, when removed and biopsied proved to be cancerous, specifically, an aggressive form of Colon Cancer. During a subsequent PET scan, a second mass was detected in his upper, or Ascending colon, and, after a second colonoscopy, it was determined that the only feasible way to give Don a good chance of actually beating the disease was to remove the entire colon.

Later that month Don endured a seven and a half hour surgery to remove almost all of his colon. While in the hospital he received added complications of a herniated disc in his lower spine, and an infection of the largest incision that necessitated a second surgery to repair. Both these complications proved to lengthen his stay in the hospital, and to make his recovery even more painful. After two weeks in the hospital and another week in a rehabilitation facility, Don was able to come home in late February. His most recent PET scan showed no signs of the disease (hooray!), but this form of cancer has a 50% re-occurrence rate if no further treatment is received. To combat those odds, Don started six months of intense chemotherapy this week.

While we don’t know how his body will react to the chemo, we do know that his ability to work will continue to be limited. Besides being a life long Musician around Memphis and the Mid South, many of you know Don McGregor as “The World’s Funniest Carpenter” (seriously – that’s what his business card says), but he hasn’t been able to work since before his surgery, and will not be able to for a while. He has, however, continued to keep people laughing even with all that he has gone through.

So, I ask you this: Has Don McGregor ever made you laugh? Have you ever enjoyed his music? Has he ever done some nice work on your house? If so, now is your turn to make him smile by contributing anything you can. All donations will go directly to Don, Cathy, and their two young daughters, Selah and Lilah. The funds raised will help this incredible family with medical expenses (even with insurance, the bills keep coming in) and the loss of Don’s income while he continues his fight.

Thank You.
