In 1998 Mark suffered cardiac arrest running to first base during a baseball game and was revived. He was diagnosed with IHSS now more commonly known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. An internal pacemaker/defibrillator was implanted and he was placed on multiple medications. Throughout the years he developed many arrythmias and his internal defibrillator had fired. He recently underwent several procedures including Cardioversion and Cardiac Ablation. He was the put on contiuous IV medication therapy that was causing his arrythmias to get worse. Last week he had his first open heart surgery and an L-VAD (left ventricular assist device-mechanical heart pump) was implanted until a heart becomes available.
