The Stottmann's Haiti Adoption

{Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in His holy habitation. Psalm 68:5}

As you can most likely tell from the picture above, we are adopting!!!! I am almost certain that we could not be any more happy, scared, excited, hopeful, nervous or amazed than we are in this moment. It has been quite the journey to get to this point, and we are so incredibly in awe of God and the way He has guided us on this new adventure.

Three years ago, on our first mission trip to Memphis, Tennessee, God gave Dustin & I a clear calling to adopt. He broke our hearts in ways we never experienced before. For Dustin, it was scary. He was the logical thinker, trying to figure out how we would be able to do this. Then there was me. I was in it full force, not thinking about all the things that go along with it. The emotions, the finances, the waiting, the weary heart of a mother wanting so badly to see a glimpse of her childs face. We both decided to take some time to pray and really think about what we were doing. We read blog after blog, story after story of other peoples journey’s & what it meant to adopt a child. The hardships that come along with it. We decided that maybe it was best to wait and allow God to work in us even more before we took the next step.

Through this time of waiting, He has taught us many things about being His children, and our own adoption stories. And we believe that understanding our own adoption in Christ, has helped us better appreciate the adoption of children.

I love these lines from the book Adopted For Life, by Russell D. Moore, “Whether our background is Norwegian or Haitian or Indonesian, if we are united to Christ, our family genealogy is found not primarily in the front pages of our dusty old family Bible but inside its pages, in the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. Our identity is in Christ; so his people are our people, his God our God.”

His people, are our people. And as a follower of Jesus, we are called to love them, even making them a member of our family. And we can not wait to do just THAT! So here are some answers to some questions you may have…

Where are you adopting from? The country of Haiti!!

Boy or Girl? We chose not to choose. :) We will find out when we receive our referral, which is a picture and the info of Charlie.

What age? On our application we put 0-3 years old. So, again, we will find out when we get our referral.

Do you have a name picked out for them? Yes, we chose the name Charlie, which will be their name if it is a boy or girl. Charlie means free, which is a word I hold close to my heart. Even though we don’t have a face to put with the name, God knows who Charlie is, so please join us in praying for him/her everyday. For protection, for good health, for them to feel a strong sense of love & comfort until we can come for him/her.

What is the time frame? Our agency has told us to expect about 2 years. Please pray for us, as waiting is one of the hardest parts.

Where are you at in the process right now? We were formally accepted into our agency(All Blessings International) last month, and have paid the first big part of our program fee, and have finished the business paperwork. We are now onto our homestudy.

How can we help? Please, please, please join us in praying for this process. In the next couple weeks, I will give you some specific ways you can be praying for this journey, but for now please just be praying for guidance, for things to go smoothly, for funds to be met, and for our hearts to stay fixed on Christ and His timing.

Adoption is not only a lengthy process, but it is also very costly. Altogether our adoption will cost over $30,000. God has blessed us in ways we didn't imagine by providing us with the funds to pay for everything up to this point. Now, we are asking for those who are able, to prayerfully consider donating to our adoption fund. If that is something you feel led to do, please click on the link below. In the near future we will also have some cool ways that you can help us fund our adoption, but also help those in Haiti who are trying to keep their families together.

Most of all, we just want each of you to come along with us on this new adventure. We will need each one of your words,prayers and wisdom to make it through the next few years. Thank you for loving us and our little family. And if you think about it after you finish reading this, please say a prayer for Charlie. This Momma would be so grateful.:)
