Explain what happened
I feel like Chris Gardner from the film "The Pursuit of Happiness." My circumstances are different, but the dynamic is the same. I am someone who is living in the margins of life and I am trying so hard to live the best life possible.
I have a psychiatric disability and am transitioning from disability income to earned income. I've struggled with traditional employment, but discovered I do well with jobs that have specific project deadlines/goals where I can set my own schedule.
This is one reason why I started a nonprofit organization. I get paid a monthly stipend, but it is not a living wage. It would take an entire book to explain what happened, but what happened most recently is that my car died and I have no means to replace it.
Describe what is needed
I need a car so I can travel to work. This month, I am scheduled to teach a wellness class for individuals who have been incarcerated and another class this fall for individuals who are in addiction recovery. I'm also scheduled to facilitate community conversations about suicide prevention, but I have no way to travel. I'm trying so hard to live well and bless others, but not having transportation is rather debilitating. It impacts both my vocational and personal wellness.
Do your best to estimate the costs
I've searched online and most dependable used cars that are under 100,000 miles are close to $5,000. I don't need the newest or most expensive model. I just need something reliable with low mileage that will last for many years. I can afford the insurance and gas money because I am already accustomed to paying for these necessities.
Explain if there are other ways you need help
Sure, of course there are other ways I need help. I need a consistent salary. I need to be paid for the work that I do. I need dignity and to not feel as if I am begging. I have no idea how to launch a successful campaign that will support a nonprofit. My expertise lies in the actual work, not raising funds. My goal is $5,000. Explain how soon you need the funds
I needed them yesterday. The wellness class starts on July 19th so I'm trying to raise these funds and make a car purchase as soon as possible. I'm already saying "no" to work opportunities that I would otherwise say "yes" to if I had transportation. If you would help me out, I promise to work to bless others every day for as long as my car lasts. Thank you for your consideration.
