Save Our Steinway
The Bates County Historical Society & Museum is raising funds to have our 1877 Steinway Model B piano fully restored by Steinway. This piano was originally purchased by Dr. Elliott Pyle, a Civil War veteran, who had seen a similar piano at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. The piano has been in Bates County since 1879, was donated to the museum by Miss Eunice Pyle in 1979 and needs restoration. Once restored, the piano will be available to the citizens of Bates County for recitals and performances. Bates is a rural county, one hour south of Kansas City, Missouri, with a population of less than 17,000 people. We are asking for your help in raising $50,000 to have this magnificent instrument completely restored and returned to the Bates County Museum so that this, and many future generations will be able to enjoy one of the finest pianos ever made.
