Erica Takes Egypt

Hello everyone! My name is Erica Everett and I am a rising junior at Howard University from Detroit, MI. Currently I am majoring in Accounting and minoring in Administration of Justice.

Howard University has been my dream school for as long as I can remember. As college was quickly approaching, it was evident that The Mecca was the one for me. During my first two years, I was extremely active on campus. I served as a student reprensative for College Hall North's Dorm Council, and I am apart of the Executive Board of the National Association of Black Accountants, the Howard University Michigan Club, and College Has Its Life Lessons Mentoring Program.  Additionally, I am highly involved in the community by involvement in Howard University's Day of Service, Howard University's Alternative Day of Service, several Christmas food drives, and food banks. In the midst of it all, I have been able to obtain a 3.5 grade point average and stay on Howard University's School of Business Dean's List.

When I came to Howard University as a freshman, it instantly came to my attention that I was surrounded by and immersed in a variety of cultures and ethnicities. Howard University is not only full of African Americans, but a multitude of international students as well. With my parents and myself being African Americans, I have never gotten exposure to any other African cultures. With this being said, I am always intrigued with my fellow colleagues’ cultures and where they were born. My HBCU has made me realize that everybody's black isn't the same. Even though we are all black, there are many forms of blackness found all over the world, not solely in one particular region.

In the summer of 2017, Dr. Gregory Carr and Dr. Mario Beatty will be taking about 45 Howard students to Egypt. During our time there, we will be touring the pyramids, museums and several other sites in Egypt, while also receiving lectures form Dr. Carr and Dr. Beatty. This study abroad experience to the motherland will give me a better understanding of my people and broaden my outlook on life. Also, being immersed in the culture will allow me to gain a global perspective on issues within my own community. With this being my first study abroad experience, I hope to share the global knowledge for the well-being of my community and become a better leader as well.

The trip is $4,200 and will consist of 14 consecutive days. I am asking that you help donate whatever you are willing to help me study abroad in Egypt. Every penny counts. Donations will be goint towards my flight, meals, lodging, and any other necessary fees.

Traveling to Egypt will be an unforgettable experience and your donations will mean the world to me. Thank you in advance for your contributions and support. Below is more information on the trip. Please leave your contact information.

If you have any further questions you can contact me at (313)-740-5689.

I wish you all peace, love and prosperity.
