ESAR 23' Boat Replacement Fund

Donation protected
Escambia Search And Rescue (ESAR) Marine Operations is asking for donations to purchase a suitable replacement boat to allow us to continue to respond to missions in rough conditions and in deep water.

In the early 1980's, a 1977 23' Mako Sportfishing vessel was donated to Marine Operations and it was our only heavy weather/deep water rescue boat. Although the Mako has served ESAR well over the years even with great care and maintenance the boat needs more repairs than is economically feasible and is no longer safe to operate.

To replace this unsafe vessel, the senior members of Marine Operations has selected a 22' ex-navy Boston Whaler with twin (2) low hour outboards.  The boat has the sea keeping, stability and diver support capabilities, is much better suited for Search And Rescue operations and will keep ESAR Marine Operations (Marine Ops) mission ready for many years to come.  This boat is being sold by Brown Helicopter, Inc. of Pensacola, Florida.

With boating season quickly approaching, we need this boat as quickly as possible, so ESAR Marine Ops will be misson ready when called on to respond.  Brown Helicopter Inc, has agreed to hold the boat for a short period of time while we raise the funds for it.

ESAR is an all volunteer 501C non-profit organization established in 1961.  Since 1961 ESAR has responded to local and regional calls for assistance.  ESAR was in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Northern Alabama after the violent tornado outbreaks, in Navarre Florida after the crash of an Army Blackhawk helicopter and Mobile Bay when requested by the US Coast Guard to participate in the search for missing sailboat regatta crews when several sailboats capsized during a severe storm last spring.  These are just a very few of the many missions ESAR has responded to over the last 55 years.  ESAR operates 100% on donations, although called upon by Federal, State and Local agencies both locally and regionally, ESAR receives no funding from any goverment agency or organization.

ESAR is composed of seven Commands: Dive, Land, K9, Family Services, Communications, Support, and Marine Operations.  Marine Operations mission is to search for missing boaters, downed aircraft, and missing persons when requested by the Coast Guard, State and Local Agencies such as the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.  Marine Operations also supports ESAR's Dive, K9 and Land Commands when their missions require water borne transportation and support.

ESAR Marine Ops, because of our all volunteer and non-tax payer status, is often capable of staying on scene for a search that is still viable after Federal, State and Local agencies must suspend the search simply because of funding or the rescue has become a recovery.  As sad as the thought that rescue is unlikey, we believe that family and friends need closure and that those lost must come home.  It's with this in mind that we take our search and recovery efforts very seriously.

ESAR Marine Operations is more than boats and equipment, the volunteers of ESAR Marine Ops have a heart to help their community locally and regionally.  Our mission statement "So others may live" means more than words on a page, it is the driving force behind all of the volunteers of ESAR.

Your donation will help save  lives!  Help  us help others!
