#EviesMarathon therapy fund

Thanks for taking the time to visit my GoFundMe page in honour of our precious Evie. So many people ask me if there's anything the can do to help & so the purpose of this is to raise funds for Evie to have post stroke rehabilitation therapy. This will help her regain some independence through physiotherapy & help her live her precious life to the full.

She is such an incredible little girl. So far in her short life she has endured pain above and beyond most peoples worst nightmares. She has literally  stared death in the face and won many health battles when all the odds were stacked against her. Despite all this trauma she still wears a huge smile on her face and generally is a little ray of sunshine.

This is her story........
In 2015 Evie had just turned two when out of the blue Evie was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. Her poor little heart was failing. It had swollen so much it had completely crushed her left lung and could no longer pump the blood efficiently around her body. She was rushed by ambulance to the intensive care unit of The Evelina Children's Hospital where they tried to keep her stable on many medications. After a few months despite their best efforts, it was evident medication was not enough to keep her alive, her heart was so damaged she was now in end stage heart failure. She severely deteriorated and needed to be transferred to the intensive care unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for mechanical heart support called a Berlin Heart. This machine is referred to as a "bridge to transplant" and this life support device kept Evie alive throughout her long wait for a donor, which can be seen in the picture. Now finding a donor heart was Evie's only hope of survival.

Evie's journey on the Berlin Heart was not an easy one, she didn't respond to the blood thining therapy, which is required for being on the Berlin Heart. She subsequently suffered multiple strokes causing total loss of movement on the left side of her body, damage to her swallow and loss of her left peripheral vision. The Berlin Heart kept Evie alive & after an agonising 7 month wait Evie received her match and she had her heart transplant. The surgery itself was a major risk, but again, Evie did what she does best and fort her way through.
Evie's journey post transplant was also not a smooth one. She had contracted Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which causes infection of the lungs and breathing passage, For Evie in her most fragile state and having absolutely no immune system to fight this virus, we nearly lost her. Two collapsed lungs later and numerous emergency interventions by dedicated professionals at GOSH, they saved her, all the while Evie continued to fight for her life along side them.

When Evie was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy a Doctor said her poor little body was so tired, it's working over time, all the time. In fact it's like running a marathon every day just to stay alive.

The NHS can not provide the intensive post stroke physiotherapy Evie needs, as they simply do not have the resources or the funds to offer such therapies- this is why we have had to find an alternative route of therapy.  The maximum results for post stroke survivors comes from intensive treatment as soon as possible after the incident. Unfortunately Evie was in hospital waiting for a transplant & thankfully she was blessed with her match. But, at that time our main focus was getting her through hour-by-hour without the added anxiety of rehabilitation. Now we are home & settled - she is in the right mindset yo reach her full potential. She also deserves it.

Your generosity, however small, will contribute to helping Evie regain her independence & continue going from strength to strength .
That's a pretty amazing way to spend your money. Please donate today, however small, every penny counts.

Thank you so much.
