What is Moyamoya?
Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain in an area called the basal ganglia. The name “moyamoya” means “puff of smoke” in Japanese and describes the look of the tangle of tiny vessels formed to compensate for the blockage.
We want to raise awareness of this disease and raise money to help families.
The picture below is Andrew Pattinson, a friend who lives in Carlisle, Cumbria who has just had 13 hour surgery at Preston to alleviate his symptoms. He is on the road to recovery but this disease is not curable. We need to raise awareness of this disease and start raising funds to help other families who suffer from this rarely known disease. There is a one in a million chance of having this disease.
This is Andrew Pattinson who has Moyamoya. Let's get this disease recognised please?
