F-SAE USB is an undergraduate team project from Universidad Simon Bolivar in Venezuela. Each year, we design, build and test a race car for the Formula SAE competition in Michigan, USA. Throughout the years we have become the most prestigious Latin American team in the Formula SAE Michigan competition, taking part since 2002. The experience of Formula SAE improves the country’s knowledge in applied sciences as well as the engineering development in Venezuela.
Because of GoFundme policies, we are required to explain that the funds recollected with this campaign will be transfered to the acount of Guillermo Velazco, who is a current team member and a US citizen. He will then proceed to deliver the funds to the team so we can cover the expenses of the Formula SAE competition in Michigan. He will then proceed to transfer those fund to Prof. Sergio Diaz, faculty advisor of our team. Each year it becomes a greater challenge to represent Venezuela in the competition. We need support from people committed to the future of Venezuela and the training of new engineers who will contribute to the technological development of the country.
This year we face much greater challenges to compete. Sadly, Venezuela has the highest inflation rate in our history (130% according to the Central Bank, but higher rates are well known) as well as the weakest currency in Latin America (900Bs per dollar in the black market, with a minimum wage of 11 dollars a month), this is consequence of the recent crisis in the oil market (Venezuela’s mayor income).
We need your help to improve education and technology in Venezuela. We receive every type of donations. Without the aid of people committed to the development of the country, it’s impossible for us to represent Venezuela in the Formula SAE Michigan competition. Our main challenge is to send the prototype to the US, we haven't found any company or entrepreneur which could help us sending it. (See the board funds below).
Despite all the problems which we face as a country, we need to show that Venezuela has the potential to develop high technology and produce well trained engineers.
