1820's Log Cabin Roof Improvements

The Henderson Historical Society had the opportunity to relocate and save a cabin that would have been built in the 1820s. Prior to being moved onto the Henderson Historical Society land, it had been hidden under other building material for a number of decades, which helped to protect it. Due to the harsh weather elements up here in North Country, NY it has had an effect on the roof. Critters have also taken to creating damage to the roof.  We have had several appraisals to repair to the roof with a material that would maintain the authentic look of the cabin. 

The cabin is used every year as a teaching aid to local 4th graders to come and see what their ancestors could have lived in during the 1820s. Therefore the cabin is very dear to our community. Due to COVID-19 pandemic times have been difficult for our society to raise funds to make the necessary repairs to the cabin. We have not been able to open our doors to the museum and all of our events used to raise funds have been canceled to due state mandate orders.
