Lost An Eye But Staying Strong.

A motorcyclist was left "howling with pain" after being being blinded in one eye by a missile from a passing car. Marc Toone, 31, was hit in the face by an egg as he drove on Newton Lane, Wigston, Leicestershire, on Friday night. Despite being rushed to hospital by his fiancée, doctors said they could not save his right eye. Mr Toone was travelling back from his job as a chef at about 23:15 GMT on Friday. He had the visor of his helmet up when an oncoming car with its lights on full beam dazzled him. He said: "As the car passed me I felt something hit me in the face and then I felt something dripping down my cheek. "I stopped the bike, took my helmet off and realised my hand was covered in blood. "I rang [my fiancée] and all she got was me howling in pain." His fiancée, Sarah Simms, said she was "horrified" by what she saw and "broke every speed limit" driving him to hospital. Mr Toone said: "The fact I have lost vision in my right eye is horrifying, and all because of someone's childish act in a car - it is just stupid. He is waiting to find out whether he can continue with his job. In the meantime his has been put on sick leave on the standard statutory sick pay and is loosing a huge amount of money that he would have been paid if he was working. Currently he is braving a smile and laughing and joking as though nothing is wrong. He is a good man, an amazing father who has just gotten engaged only weeks before this tragedy happened, I'm very proud to call him my best friend (a brother more like). The reason I am here asking for help for him is to aid him in this sad time, unfortunately being put on sick leave doesn't decrease the cost of bills, let alone the cost of living. In the months to come, he will have to adjust to life with only one eye, he will have to re adjust and go through extensive physiotherapy, counselling and adaptations to help with recovery. This also means that he will be unable to work for the next few months mabey even longer. I have set up this plea for help in the hopes of aiding him and his family with the costs of living (rent, food, etc) Unfortunately their plans to get married may have to be pushed back until they get back on their feet and back into work but I hope that this will help them in some way. Please help this amazing man and his family and thank you.
