Hello all,
As many of you may know we have sadly encountered yet another recent natural disaster. In May of 2010, Nashville, TN was flooded; wherein many homes, buildings, and businesses were destroyed. One of which, was our very own family business—Botan Market. After nearly six months of extensive hard work, restlessness, and tears our market was slowly but surely running up again. We would not have been able to be where we were (before the recent flood) if it was not for the aid of our family, employees, friends, and the loyal customers/community we have surrounding us; for that, we are extremely grateful.
Unfortunately, on March 27, 2021, there was another flood that swept through many nearby and distant areas; also known to be the 4th wettest day on record. As we sat and watched the weather updates, flashbacks wired in from the floods that occurred in 2010, leaving us once again anxious and shaken. Our families were restlessly awaiting what could be another episode of possible destruction. We rushed to Botan Market that night to witness a scene of heartache. A little over a decade later, here we were once again witnessing the same level of distress, unable to do anything but watch as the building started to saturate. Cars were submerged into the waters and there was muddy rubbish along all the perimeters.
To give a little background, in March of 2001, my Father and Uncle took full ownership and lead the market as partners. Since then, we have grown into such a successful small business. A place where we not only serve the diverse community with everyday necessities like groceries but a place that feels like a second home—known to be welcoming and filled with smiles and laughter. The upbringing of our family business holds many memories that we cherish, and we would like to continue racking more memories as we try and navigate through this new season of life.
This market not only felt like home to us but over time the area became a home to some of the neighboring homeless. My Father and Uncle would help them at times and give what they could. They haven’t seen those familiar faces since the flood swept by. Some lives were lost and we are praying that our friends are safe.
The damages will take months to repair and it will be an extremely costly matter. With all the suffering we now have to endure, we are asking you all to donate whatever you can give. We are also welcoming all to come out and physically support with disposing and cleaning both the interior and exterior of Botan Market (mask must be required upon arrival). If you are unable to give, we would love for you to send prayers and share/repost.
We kindly appreciate you all in advance for anything you can give or do.
With grace,
Botan Market Inc.
