Six Days in Coma. Bills adding up daily.
Donation protected
In early May, I woke up with abdominal pain and was unable to even keep water down. I called 911 and waited for EMS. Shortly after they picked me up, I heard someone say "Whoa!" I closed my eyes and that was the last thing I knew.
I later learned that I had been in the midst of a thyroid storm, and dying.
I was taken to the critical care unit, where I descended into a coma for six days. I woke up with a feeding tube and breathing tube; I ultimately spent just shy of 30 days between the critical / intensive / elevated units.
However, somewhere during all the endless days and dire changes my body was going through, the muscles in my feet (and to a far lesser extent, my hands) atrophied to the point where I could not even stand on my own. I spent an additional two months in a dedicated physical rehab facility.
Happily, I can walk with the aid of a walker now, and my doctors have every confidence that - with work and time - I will be back to my old self.
While my insurance is handling the bulk of the cost, I am still responsible for a portion beyond my deductible and "out of pocket." I currently owe hospitals and doctors nearly $10,000.00. Thanks to my company, I am getting partial pay while on leave of absence, but it's just too big of a price tag.
I will lose my house and/or fall into bankruptcy without some kind of assistance.
I am in desperate straits - anything you can donate will help.
