In Memory of Paul Howard

Paul Howard's family are asking for donations to the Outer Harbour Sailing Camp in Toronto instead of flowers. The Outer Harbour Sailing Camp combines Paul's two great passions: sailing and social justice.

Paul was a friend and a strong advocate for the Sailing Camp, which offers sailing lessons to young people ages 6-17. The Camp includes children from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are referred through youth support organizations and pay no fee to attend, as well as children with disabilities. Federation clubs support the Camp through the provision of safety boats; land, winter storage and dock space; volunteer work teams; and the funding of no-fee seats in sailboats. The Camp is managed and operated by a committee of volunteers through the Outer Harbour Sailing Federation. The camp is self-funded through fees, donations and Canada Summer Job grants to pay the wages of youth instructors and purchase sail boats. Your donation will go towards supporting individual no-fee sailors from disadvantaged backgrounds who want to learn to sail and work their way towards earning their instructors’ certificates.

Paul was a past Commodore of the Outer Harbour Sailing Federation and the Toronto Multihull Cruising Club, where he was a member for 25 years, The Outer Harbour Sailing Federation is a group of eight cooperative non-profit volunteer-run clubs that offer affordable access to watersports including dinghy sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking via land provided by the City of Toronto.

Paul passed away on November 30 2024 after decades of contributions to Toronto's sailing community and a lifetime of adventure, achievement and compassion.
